SIGNAGE FOR DANGEROUS GOODS STORAGE
How to correctly store and sign your Dangerous Goods
It is so important to ensure that any dangerous goods, chemicals or gases, are stored correctly; they also need to have the appropriate signage in case of any emergency.
Did you know some classes of Dangerous Goods can poison, some may explode, burn or even corrode?
Did you know that 5% of the fire brigades responses in Australia is due to combustible or flammable fires? If an emergency was to come upon you, the responders need to know as quickly as possible what you store on site and how to best treat the emergency. The faster you can get an SDS to the responder, the better – and this often means having a digital version on a mobile device on the scene rather than trying to find the paper copy during an emergency. This information will allow fire-fighters to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and any surrounding personnel from additional hazards caused by the product in the case of a fire.
Do you know the dangerous goods signage requirements for your site? This will differ between all 9 classes of dangerous goods. If you are storing Petroleum Gases for instance, you can do away with signage if you are storing under 200ltrs. Anything above this, needs to have the adequate signage in place.
