CLICK AND COLLECT. A GROWING TREND
Click and collect is undoubtedly a growing retail trend. It substitutes home delivery for in-person collection and is proving very popular with consumers.
Instead of waiting days or even a week for your goods to arrive, you can wait a few hours and grab the item from the retailer’s physical store when it suits you.
Adam Lauffer is the chief financial officer at UK-based logistics startup Doddle, which provides click and collect solutions for some of the country’s biggest retailers. At Doddle, they build technology that allows logistics businesses and retailers to delight their customers. They make eCommerce logistics better with out-of-home delivery and returns solutions that reduce cost and offer a market-leading customer experience. “What we see is, particularly in urban areas and particularly with Millennials, the more convenient options are becoming more and more of a factor driving the buying decision,” he said. “From all the conversations with the retailers we’re having, this is absolutely on everyone’s agenda. It’s definitely a growing space in the market, and it’s definitely being driven by consumer appetite.”
That’s set to change according to retail researcher at the University of Tasmania Louise Grimmer who says click and collect is set to overtake delivery to become the standard offering. “One of the major frustrations for online customers is around delivery – especially if you are not home when your orders are delivered,” Dr Grimmer said. “Customers want to be connected with the purchases as quickly and easily as possible so click and collect minimises some of the delivery frustrations. It’s all about giving customers different options to make their shopping experience as convenient as possible.”
With the recent pandemic upon us, Click and Collect has been the saving of many retail stores. Unable to have foot traffic in their physical stores, by offering click and collect options, they can continue to trade.
From large retail firms right through to local hairdressers and cafes, everyone is pivoting and embracing change in order to survive.
Will Click and Collect be around in the future? Speed, convenience, and reliability are a few reasons we have grown to fall in love with Click and Collect; reasons we will always embrace.
